Mark Howell

Managing Director

I started my career in Health & Safety in 1994 where after some exceptional training, I discovered a passion for delivering practical, common sense advice, as opposed to the usual tick box and convoluted ‘anorak’ approach. In 2005, I set to transferring my unique ethos into companies across the country, and Key Safety Solutions was born. This unique method has offered peace of mind to our clients, and made Health & Safety an easy to understand process, successfully contributing to a positive H&S culture and saving our clients time, with our common sense approach.

Favourite film?
Pulp Fiction, truly a masterpiece in modern cinema

Favourite quote?
“So long and thanks for all the fish” It’s surprising how often you can slip a Douglas Adams quote into a conversation

To kill a mockingbird, I saw the film many years ago but have read the book regularly since

Kristian Howell

Business Development Manager

I cross trained and joined the KSS team in 2013 having spent 8 years working in the legal system. I understand that no two companies are the same and I take pride in our ability to offer a unique service and cater for individual businesses. In my spare time I can be found in the kitchen or on the golf course, although I have to admit that I’m more use with a cook book than I am with a golf club!

What are your favourite movies?
I could never settle on a favourite, but I’m a big fan of The Departed, Fight Club, The Godfather, Point Break, City of God and 12 Angry Men.

What music do you like?
My iPod is pretty eclectic, but depending on what mood I’m in, I enjoy The Beatles, Kings of Leon, Bob Marley, Daft Punk, Jamiroquai, Metallica – the list is endless!

What is your guilty pleasure?
Pretty Woman. There, I said it!

James Lewis

Health & Safety Manager

I started with Key Safety in 2014 after working for a blue chip medical devices company. I now manage the H&S department and ensure the smooth running of our client H&S Services. I use my experience of consulting within a multitude of industries to transfer into assisting our client base, in turn, saving them time and acting as their designated competent person. No day is the same in my job, which means I am kept on my toes all the time.

Favourite films?
Goodfellas, Godfather I & II, and all James Bond Films.

What is your guilty pleasure?
Skittles! Can’t get enough of the rainbow of fruit flavours

What would people be surprised to know about you?
I am related to the writers of the Welsh National Anthem ‘Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau’ – James & Evan James.

Ian John

Health & Safety Advisor

Prior to starting with KSS I had a successful career in the Royal Marines and then as a Health, Safety and Security officer upon a seismic survey vessel in the North Sea. It was a natural transition for me into a full time (Land based) H&S career, and it’s great to be back on Terra firma!

In my spare time I play rugby for a local Bridgend team, and dote upon my young family.

Who is your idol?
Sonny Bill Williams the All Black centre who is nothing short of a rugby machine

What is your nickname?
Juggler, given to me by my rugby teammates as I tend to drop the ball a lot.

Lucy Williams

HR Manager

I have been the head of the HR department since its inception and have instilled a unique approach to the delivery of the service. I understand that everyone’s requirements are different and the value in continuity and bespoke advice from someone who has taken the time to get to know your business – no call centre ethos or sitting on the fence allowed.

Favourite film?
Braveheart; just because!

Who’s you idol?
I should say a barrister such as Daniel Barnett, but it has to be Shane Filan from Westlife!

Favourite hobbies?
To be truthful, I don’t really have time to participate in many hobbies as my time is taken up caring for my young identical twin girls!

Stefanie Oldfield

HR Advisor

I take pride in my ability to be approachable and reassuring, whilst giving our clients the comfort that comes with being compliant and having that someone there who has their best interests at heart.  I understand that no two companies are the same and that everyone likes to deal with HR and Employment Law issues in different ways, so I continually adapt my service to cater for this.

Favourite quote?
Ad astra per aspera, which is a Latin phrase for “to the starts through difficulties’.  I’m a firm believer in you only get out of life what you put in.

To achieve ones goals isn’t always going to be an easy task or journey – this quote firmly reminds me of this.

What is your favourite TV Show
Ray Donavan; lets be fair we could all do with a ‘fixer’ in our life and Liv Schreiber is a bit of a dreamboat.

 What is your favourite food?
Honey glazed prawns from a lovely little Chinese in Canton, Cardiff; enough said!

Karen Smith

Having worked in the retail sector for many years, I have a solid background in customer care and thrive on providing a comprehensive and personalised service to all of our clients. I enjoy the varied queries that come to me on a daily basis and applying my skillset to ensure that I secure the best outcome.

Pride & Prejudice; you really can’t beat the classics!

Who is your idol?
Ayrton Senna. I’m a huge motorsport fan & have been for many years –  Ayrton Senna is definitely the best F1 driver who ever lived.

Any kind of legal drama, I’m a big fan of Suits.

Angharad Jones

Appointment Setter

I started working for KSS as an Appointment Setter after spotting a fantastic opportunity to join a company that is rapidly growing and offers fantastic employee benefits. I spend as much of my spare time as possible with my husband to be and 2 children who are 3 and 5. They keep me busy, but I manage to squeeze in my accountancy studies when I can!

Natasha Rogers

Administration Assistant

My role within KSS is to provide cohesion between each of the departments and liaise with our client base to offer administrative support and after care. I also operate the switchboard telephone and take pride in always offering a friendly reception. In my spare time, I’m a little bit of a Zumba addict…

ROM COMS – I’m a sucker for a love story and am a total romantic at heart

Michelle Sullivan

Accounts

I originally started working 2 days a week for KSS back in August 2012, I joined the company to assist in their accounts payable and receivable, and the processing / setting up of both their new and existing customers on the accounting system and associated reports.

In the November I moved to a different part of the business, but soon returned back to the accounts role when I returned from having child number 2 in April 2014.

Now the proud owner of 2 kids, I returned to work (a break from the mayhem!) on part time hours but this time 5 days a week, where I enjoy again supporting the KSS team with not just the accounts and reporting, but also where needed and wanted.

Although I am based in the Cambridgeshire office, and don’t see the main KSS team day to day, I speak to them regularly and feel a part of their great team, I enjoy my role within KSS and am happy to have returned to this part of the business again.
